Using a starter x10.com kit, how can i set it up so a macro is activated when i press a switch on the wall?
I’m going to buy an X10 starter kit from x10.com to control some lights and a fog machine in my room for a cool party trick, similar to the MIDAS system here; http://youtube.com/watch?v=wsPQWz9CWuA . The kit includes a controller and software to setup macros, and I can activate the macro with a remote from them, but I’d rather have a standalone button. The software comes with an SDK so I’d assume there must be a third party app somewhere that would add this functionality. What software would let me do this, and what kind of button do I need to purchase?

Found an inexpensive “Big Red Button” capable of sending out one RF X10 code. Its default code is House Code A, Unit Code 1. No macros this way – everything would happen all at once.
I’ve tried both the X10 and Smarthome computer software. Liked the X10 software but hated their wall module. The Smarthome software is not pretty but the module works. Would not recommend this approach. The software is best for timed events that occur every day at the same time i.e. turning on / off a waterfall.
I’ve approached home theater automation with a Phillips Pronto remote and an Infrared X10 Command Console – $25 http://www.smarthome.com/4040.html . The Pronto remotes are capable of macros and timed events. A computer is required to program them – software is provided.
The “Big Red Button” should be sufficient to get your party started!
